Thanksgiving dinner is probably one of the biggest meals of the year full of all types of delicious options that are packed with added calories, fats, and sugars. It’s a day many overindulge and regret overeating the next day or even just hours later. Let’s be honest, over the 4-week span between Thanksgiving and Christmas there are many festivities that entice  us to overindulge in yummy food. There are a few tips that can help you stay on track with your healthy lifestyle this thanksgiving.

  1. Start your day with a high protein, whole grain breakfast. It is understandable to make room for the big meal but choosing a modest sized breakfast full of protein and wholes gains can help set your day up for success.
  2. Be active, go for a walk in the morning, play football with the family. Burn the morning calories to make room for the afternoon calories.
  3. Choose water throughout the day. Limit alcohol and sweetened beverages. No one wants to hit their caloric max with a beverage save that for the great food!
  4. Only eat wat you like, don’t feel like you must try everything. Evaluate the food options and decide what looks and sounds best to you. don’t put every side dish on your plate.
  5. Choose a smaller plate.  When you have a smaller plate, you are less likely to over fill it.
  6. Slow Down. Savor your food that you are eating. Enjoy the food you are putting in your mouth allowing your body to digest and feel full before you choose to go back for more.
  7. Do not go back for seconds. If you took your time and allowed your body to digest what you just ate, you will discover that you are fully satisfied and do not need additional food.
  8. Clean up as soon as dinner is over, put away all the leftovers and resist going back for more.

We hope these tips and tricks help you to eat healthy this thanksgiving and keep you on track for your healthy lifestyle goals.
